The Future of PDC


We are writing this message to share with our community an important update about the future of The Philadelphia Design Center (PDC). As you know, PDC is a unique project started by Karen DiLossi, the Director of the Arts in Sacred Places at the national organization Partners for Sacred Places (PSP). Unfortunately, we recently learned that PSP is no longer able to support PDC’s operational and financial needs, so we have begun looking for new owners and operators to carry on our work here at PDC!

What does this mean for you and our current members?
During this time of transition, PDC staff is committed to keeping our memberships and programming operating as normal. Our goal is to transition PDC to new ownership with little to no disruption. Whether or not we find new owner(s), we will operate as usual until July 15th. We will keep our community fully informed of any updates during this period of transition but please know you will still have an active community and space to work at PDC at least until July 15th. (We are hopeful it will proceed beyond this date with new owners and operators!)

We value you, and we are sure that your continued participation with PDC throughout this transition will be appreciated by the new leadership. Loretta will be in touch with each of our current members about their membership and billing shortly.

What’s next for PDC?

Over the next two months, we will continue working on finding new owners and operators to continue our mission of providing accessible and affordable space and resources to Philadelphia’s emerging designers and low-income creative talent. While we hope to limit the negative impact this change will have on all of our community members, we welcome your input and ideas for organizations and/or businesses that may be a good fit to guide PDC into the future!

Needless to say, we are proud of our members and the impact in the community PDC has had thus far. We know that our city needs more affordable space for the design and creative talent who lives here, not less.

We’ll be hosting a Public Community Meeting for open discussion on Wednesday, June 12th. In the meantime, please do not hesitate to get in touch with any of us with questions, suggestions or concerns you may have.

We are conveniently located at Broad and Federal streets in South Philadelphia. We are easily accessible by car, public transit, walking, and bike from most parts of Philly.

Please note that our space is only accessible for our current members or through appointment. Please email info@phillydesigncenter.org to plan your visit!
